Overview

This conference in Madrid helped provide an overview of the new literature on structural and institutional factors that hinder growth in developing countries. Consideration was given to modern theories of endogenous growth, and also discussed were proposals to finance millennium development goals. The conference also focused on the macroeconomic effects of aid, the various modalities of aid available and their effectiveness.
